Detections, drafts, and incidents

Review private monitor detections and publish clear, immutable customer updates.

Review a private detection

When a monitor reaches its failure threshold, Uptime opens a private detected issue and can notify the team. Open Uptime → Incidents to review it. The incident's source, status, affected components, and monitor evidence distinguish a measured detection from a manual report.

With Manual publishing, choose to write and publish an update or ignore the active unpublished detection. Ignoring is a publication decision: it does not make the monitor Up, change check evidence, or hide linked component health. Only active unpublished detections can be ignored; ignored detections cannot later be published.

After-confirmation and Automatic modes can make eligible detections public according to the monitor rules. The status page and linked component must meet their publication requirements.

Create a manual incident

Use the create-incident action, give it a customer-readable title, choose at least one affected status-page component, and write the first update. A status page must already exist. Manual incidents are useful when customer impact is known but not represented by an HTTP monitor.

Only owners and admins create incidents or updates. Members can inspect them.

Write an update or save a draft

Choose Investigating, Identified, Monitoring, or Resolved and describe what customers need to know. The rich-text editor supports paragraphs, level-two/three headings, bold, italic, lists, blockquotes, and safe links. It is not an arbitrary HTML editor or attachment system. Updates need meaningful text and support up to 4,000 plain-text characters.

Save a draft to keep the text private and editable. A draft does not apply its planned component changes, resolve a manual incident, or notify subscribers. Review the affected components and text before publishing.

Published updates are immutable. Correct or expand the message with a new update instead of expecting to edit the published history. A published status page is required, and publication is limited to 20 written updates per organization over a rolling 24-hour period.

Apply status changes correctly

A published manual-incident update can change affected manual-only component states. It cannot override a component whose health is derived from monitors. Publishing a Resolved update closes the manual incident; resolved manual incidents are read-only.

Monitor incidents follow probe-confirmed recovery. You cannot mark one Resolved while its monitor has not confirmed recovery, and its updates cannot override component state. Once recovery is confirmed, write a customer-facing recovery update as appropriate.

Know what becomes public

Publishing a written update for an active private detection can also publish the incident, provided it has an eligible visible linked component. A recovered private detection cannot be retroactively published as an active incident. Draft updates stay private even when another update or automatic rule makes the incident public.

Publishing a written update enqueues emails for confirmed public subscribers. Automatic incident publication does not itself email them. See notifications for delivery and subscription behavior.
